Well it didn't start off well with my having got my hotel bookings muddled up and having nowhere to stay... lol. I ended up in Swansea at a holiday inn!
We got to the track (right in the middle of nowhere) bright and early and full of nerves!
Day
1 consisted of a fitness test, media test (talking to the pretend press), car
control test (sliding the car round a course), brake resistance test
(steering the car round obstacles after heavy braking) and circuit
driving.
Points were allocated for each of the tests and the 68 lowest
scorers were to be sent home at the end of Day 1. I felt I had done well actually but the shock of getting through at the end of the first day still hit me and I started bawling like a baby ;-)
Day 2
the scores were swept clean and consisted of a karting race and then timed laps in the Caterham on the
circuit. Points were awarded for race-craft in the karts and for the
quickest timed laps on the track. At 6pm on Day 2 the final 16 were
to be announced, plus 4 reserves. The TV cameras were on us as the drivers were called forwards. I was in a delirious state of dreaminess as I was called up... I was completely floating on air! I just couldn't believe I had been chosen. All of the journey home I phoned friends and family to tell them my news but it didn't really hit me until today...
But... i've done it!!! I'm one of the top 16 female drivers in the UK... i'm in the championship!!!
